Let me begin this post by saying that I am new to being a ‘foodie’. Never in my life have I wanted to try and experience new tastes until now. If I go out, I tend to order the typical Spaghetti Bolognese or a cheeseburger, so today, when I visited the Bivouac canteen and bar, ordering food was one of the hardest things that I ever had to do.
When I was given the menu, I looked hopeless. Trying to find familiar words and shaping up certain images in my head, wondering what it would look like. I was attracted by one food in particular that had ‘Black Eyed Peas’ as an ingredient (awkward hahas), but finally decided on ordering the roast pork sandwich, apple & pear relish, pickled cabbage, aioli, rocket for AU$17.5 as well as their ’5 senses’ cappuccino which was considerably cheap. When my food arrived, it was huge and worth the money unlike other shops who overcharges for little portions. One thing I liked about it was that it was sweet and felt like eating sandwich with jam. Something new. My friend had ordered grilled haloumi, cauliflower ‘couscous’, barberries, pomegranate, hazelnut for AU$16.5, which was also delicious considering that I was given a piece of the haloumi (a kind of goat cheese).
Eating at Bivouac was my first experience of eating a sort of middle eastern cuisine. Its really good and recommended for all. I’m definitely coming back for the Chocolate Fondant cake that I didn’t end up having because the damn pork sandwich made me full enough as it is.
