Choosing a place to eat in Fremantle is quite hard for me. The only places I really ever go to eat here is the famous fish and chips at Cicerellos. So when I decided to try something new, I got slapped on the face because I chose to eat at Gino’s. Before anything, I am sorry if I offend anyone who loves to eat there, its probably because I came at the wrong time, ordered the wrong things or whatever. This was my experience eating there.
So my friends and I went and ordered the food at the counter, something we didn’t know until this guy at the counter were giving us the looks. The restaurant was quite full just like every other on that road, so we felt kind of embarrassed looking like really bad tourists roaming around not knowing where to go. There was alot on the menu, but I had decided to order my favourite Italian food, Spaghetti carbonara which costed me a good $20. Worst decision I have ever made. My two other friends decided to order food that I have never heard of, as they wanted to try something new. So anyways, we got a seat outside and everything seemed normal. Until the food came not long after we ordered. Usually, everytime I go to an Italian restaurant, it would take at least a good 15-30minutes for the food to come. But then again, in my head I was like ‘hey cool, fast service’. The presentation also looks delicious as you can see from the pictures below. But let me tell you, looks can be deceiving.
The spaghetti was bland. My tongue literally had to dig out for some sort of a taste. There was barely any sauce on it. I ordered chilli and I think eating the chilli raw tasted more than the entire dish itself. I was damn disappointed. As for the other dishes that my friends had ordered, they were also rather bland. None of us enjoyed our meal there.
After finishing, I went on urbanspoon to see if I was the only person that felt this way. Well, I wasn’t, the restaurant is rated 54% overall (which is quite low in urbanspoon standards) along with many negative user reviews. Apparently, the establishment is famous for its coffee, not the food. But isn’t first impression everything??? I’m sorry, but I’m never coming back again. At least I got some good pictures out of it.
